About Us
MCEE became a concept in the late spring of 2009, after the latest round of budget cuts to the school district, several parents and community members were discussing what impact those cuts would have on the quality of education. Clearly, government funding to the schools was broken with no end in sight. The talk of even more budget cuts and parcel taxes filled the conversation. But along the way, someone mentioned that some school districts were faring better than ours. One parent, Robert Jung, was curious as to how those districts was able to manage that.
That curiosity ended up in a summer research project into other local school districts. What he found was that there were several differences, but one key common theme was that those districts had educational foundations that provided an additional funding source. So, after some soul searching and encouragement from parents and the district, this challenging endeavor was born: to create an endowment for the education of the Milpitas children during a recession without a benefactor. No small task, but he was willing to give a try, given something has to change.
